An energy audit represents a modest investment with the potential for substantial savings. Assess your energy consumption – a sustainable approach for both your operating budget and the environment.
In recent years, we have witnessed a significant increase in energy prices. Numerous businesses possess substantial untapped potential for reducing energy costs. An energy audit provides an overview of where your company consumes significant energy and identifies measures that will reduce energy usage. The audit will also indicate the optimal sequence for implementing these measures. By optimizing the energy performance of your commercial building, you enhance your resilience against future uncertainties in energy resources and pricing.
Information on electricity consumption, including hourly data from the grid company: Energihuset will retrieve this information from the grid company if it is not readily available to you. We analyze the hourly consumption data for the past three years.
The collected information is compared with data from NVE, Enova, and our proprietary reference values for buildings that are logically comparable to your company's premises.
During the energy audit, we gather information about the building to establish its current status, and we assess whether it is advisable to conduct a more detailed energy analysis.
The energy audit will promptly identify straightforward measures and adjustments that lead to reduced energy consumption and lower costs.
The findings are presented in a report that estimates energy savings in percentage terms. The report aims to provide an overview of the current situation and offer recommendations for measures to guide your decision-making regarding energy optimization.
The energy analysis is an integral component of the energy audit and demonstrates how your company can reduce its energy costs.
Do you lease out buildings? Tenants evaluate the energy performance rating to estimate electricity costs. A favorable energy label can enhance the attractiveness of your property.
Energy auditing is included in the energy analysis. More than 9 out of 10 businesses have unjustifiably high electricity bills. We have developed a tool that identifies if your company's electricity bills are higher than agreed upon.
Energy auditing can be part of the energy mapping, but can also be ordered as a separate service. During an energy audit, we verify if you are paying more for electricity than what has been agreed upon with your electricity provider. Significant savings can be realized here. Over 9 out of 10 businesses pay more than agreed.
We perform solar panel calculations. This provides us with data to evaluate the value of potential solar energy production relative to your consumption profile. This allows us to determine if a solar power system would be beneficial and cost-effective for your business.
We have listed the most frequently asked questions regarding energy mapping.
Energy mapping involves a thorough review of a building's energy consumption to identify potential savings and effective measures for reducing energy usage.
Energihuset distinguishes between Energy Mapping and Energy Analysis.
Energy mapping is a review of a building's current energy consumption situation, while an Energy Analysis of the building will more concretely show what can be improved to reduce energy consumption and enhance the indoor climate.
Energy mapping assesses a building's actual consumption and potential. We gather data such as area/floor plans, construction year – including any subsequent improvements, estimated consumption – electricity and potentially other sources like gas/oil, hourly values, any energy performance certificates, grid/electricity invoices, etc., and compare this with similar buildings in the same building category and empirical data to determine the building's potential energy usage versus its actual consumption.
Following the mapping phase, we proceed to the analysis phase. Based on the mapping, the energy analysis identifies the actual measures that should be implemented and provides a cost and effect simulation for various interventions, ultimately resulting in a cost-benefit assessment for the client. An Energy Analysis includes a physical inspection by a consultant who thoroughly examines the entire building and its energy drivers. The analysis will provide a list of measures with an overview of ROI, making it easy to identify which interventions are profitable to implement in the building.
Should we install solar panels or other measures?
To determine the appropriateness of installing solar panels, upgrading ventilation systems, installing heat pumps, or implementing control systems, a prior mapping and analysis must be conducted, including calculations that demonstrate the actual results after implementing the measures. This is to prevent the implementation of measures that do not yield a favorable cost-benefit ratio.
For example, solar panels can be a costly investment; their profitability must be considered in conjunction with the building's hourly consumption throughout the year, and it is unnecessary to use solar panels to cover an existing overconsumption. Are there other energy drivers that should be addressed first?
Our energy consultants visit your business, analyze the building and its energy consumption. Subsequently, a report is prepared with recommended measures for energy efficiency.
You will receive a detailed report identifying areas for energy savings, with concrete proposals for implementable measures and a clear presentation of the ROI for each represented measure.
It can lead to significant cost savings, improved energy efficiency, and reduced environmental impact.
An energy performance certificate is mandatory for all buildings over 50 sqm when sold or leased. Furthermore, an energy certificate is a statutory requirement for buildings exceeding 1000 sqm.
The EU Taxonomy is a framework designed to foster a common understanding of which investments are sustainable through defined environmental objectives. The purpose of the Taxonomy is to facilitate the identification of genuinely green and sustainable projects, thereby accelerating the transition to a sustainable society in line with EU goals.
The Taxonomy Regulation came into force in Norway on January 1, 2023.
A regulation signifies that the legislation is uniform across national borders and cannot be adapted to national laws.
Initially, the Taxonomy's reporting requirements will apply to larger listed companies with over 500 employees. These companies must report the proportion of their business – in terms of revenue, investments, and costs – that is considered green according to the Taxonomy.
As a consequence of large listed companies having this reporting requirement, we observe that many suppliers to these large companies are compelled to comply with the Taxonomy. This, combined with pressure from other stakeholders, means that most commercial enterprises will be affected by it going forward. Therefore, it will be beneficial for businesses to prepare for this now, ensuring that routines and systems are in place when other stakeholders request this information.
Norway supports the EU's efforts to promote sustainable products. This commitment is established and further detailed in the national strategy for a green, circular economy from 2021, stating that Norway will work to ensure sustainability requirements are imposed throughout product value chains.
We assist you in obtaining support from Enova and other public funding schemes to implement the measures presented in the energy audit report.
An energy audit is a natural starting point towards an energy certificate and energy labeling to meet the environmental requirements of banks and public authorities for commercial buildings. These requirements are becoming increasingly comprehensive and also affect smaller businesses that supply large corporations or public entities.
